Joanie Combrink started her professional acting career in 1981 after graduating from the University of Stellenbosch, playing the lead in a television series called “Gazette” opposite Regardt van den Bergh. After working as a freelance artist for 8 years in Johannesburg and after starring in more than a dozen television series, she and her family moved to Cape Town in 1989. Here, she worked as a language dubbing director and played lead roles in the SABC productions “Manakwalanners 1 en 2” produced by Johan van Jaarsveld and directed by Koos Roets. After that follwed “Woestynblom”, once again with Koos Roets directing. Theatre productons like “Drafstap of Drentel”, “Dalk is ons almal so”, “Lief-Lief deur Afrikaans”, “Die Uurwerk Kantel”, “Yerma”, “Want kyk die Bruidegom is hier”, followed, all directed by Juanita Swanepoel. She also appeared in “Eet Alles” direc ted by Francois Toerien. During this time she also starred in the television series “Soutmansland” directed by Gerrit Schoonhoven and “Death in the Family” which Annie Basson directed.
